Japan PC 2004-2008 Forecast and 3Q04 Vendor Shares

This IDC study analyzes the 3Q04 Japan PC market trends and illuminates the current market situation. It also presents a forecast of future market trends, including sales channels'. The overall market figures are based on all product types: x86 server, desktops, and portable PCs. In this study, actual annual data are used for the period up till 2003 and forecast annual values are used for 2004 or later. Similarly, the quarterly data pertaining to the period up till 3Q04 (Julyâ€"September) are actual values while those pertaining to 4Q04 (Octoberâ€"December) or later are forecast values. All values were updated in December 2004.

"In 3Q04, the Japan home PC market remains sluggish while the growth of the business market, which has maintained a high level so far, is slowing down. As PC prices are approaching the cost limit, the market has moved to prevent further downslides," says Kumi Shingyouchi, senior market analyst, Personal Computing, IDC Japan.
